Testosterone Overview

Testosterone Overview

Testosterone is the primary sex hormone in men. It’s what makes a man a man. Testosterone is needed for erectile function and sex drive. It also helps with energy levels, mood, immune function, and bone density. Testosterone is what causes deep voices, facial hair, and muscle mass. Approximately 1 in 4, or 4-5 million men, are affected by low testosterone. Testosterone starts decreasing by approximately 10% each decade after age 30.

What is Andropause

Andropause is the term used for the slowing of male hormone production. Just as women go through menopause, men go through andropause. As men age, their bodies produce less and less male hormones, resulting in the symptoms of low testosterone. The symptoms are both physical and psychological in nature. It is a steady, gradual decline starting around the age of 30. Andropause is diagnosed by symptoms and laboratory testing. It is treated with Testiosterone.
